Term 4 goals

This term I really want to fill in all the gaps I have in my learning. There are some aspects of maths that I do not fully understand and I would like to do some work on this to get ready for college. Overall I really just want to learn some new things in mathematics. For reading, there are a few things that I want to expand on, and these include my vocab. I will achieve this by using the vocab tasks that we get set for us. I also want to learn about more complex parts of reading that will expand my ability. this term I also want to get better at writing persuasive and argumentative pieces of writing as I find this is my weakest type of writing.

Week one term 3

This week we have had Mr. Mcabe teaching us because Mrs. Crowe has gone deaf. We have started to do cross country training but unfortunately, I have been unable to do it because I have a concussion. this has been really annoying because I am not able to participate in sport. over the last week, we have not had a lot of time to do work because of the cross country and chocolate selling. I am going to take home a box of chocolate to sell as I think that is a worthy cause. I think that I have settled back into tai very fast and I am already starting to get on top of the work that we have been required to do. We have got SLC coming up and I am really looking forward to sharing my learning with my parents.

Week 6

This week I learnt a lot about apostrophes. Over the past few weeks we have been doing a lot of work on these and I have learnt where to put them. I found this quite hard at first but now its coming easier to me. Over this past week I have been doing a lot with fractions and i am now ready to move on to ratio. I learnt how to multiply, divide add and subtract fractions and am up to date with the work. I actually quite enjoy working with fractions and decimals and I find it quite easy. We are still doing food for our tech art and we have started thinking about our healthy cafe that we will be holding in a couple of weeks time. I have found my recipe and I am looking forward to practicing. While we were at food we made invitations for our parents. We have been doing an inquiry task on the holocaust and I am learning lots b y studying one man. I have learnt the age of this man, where he lived, who he married and what he did for the war effort. I have decided that I am going to present this in a pile of letters that would have been received by this hero. I am on top of my book review and have already wrote the body of it. I am looking foward to a solid week of work next week.

Week 3

This week we had band camp. Band camp is a time where three schools come together and rehearse some pieces to play at a concert. Matamata Intermediate and Cambridge Middle school came over and joined bands with TAI. We had two days of full on practicing and on the evening of the second we had a big concert. We practiced pieces such as Hang on sloopy, rolling in the deep, I will follow him and many more. This was a great opportunity for all band and choir members in Te Awamutu Intermediate. We also started our holocaust poetry. So far I have come up with some ideas and have written the back bone of it but I am finding it quite hard to put it in the correct format. I am up to date with my maths work and I am learning lots about algebra. We have started food and I made pizza for one of our lessons. It tasted amazing and I can not wait until we do our next lesson.

Term One Reflection

I have achieved a lot this term. At the start off this term we did heaps of testing and I was very rusty with my maths knowledge but over the last couple of weeks I have been learning about bidmas, place value, standard form and over the last week or so we have done some revision on algorithms. I feel that I have achieved lots in maths this past term. I believe that my reading comprehension has also improved over the past term due to some of the reading programs that I have been using. Now I am looking more carefully at the questions instead of just rushing through them without thinking. I have done some different genres of writing. I have done some poems and I have liked writing these because I can let my ideas flow freely. I also have had the responsibility of being puniu's house captain and I have really enjoyed this role so far. I have joined robotics, extension art and band and I am looking forward to more opportunities that will I can take. I am really looking forward to next term because of the production and all the sporting opportunities that are open for me.

Wellington experience

Wellington was amazing. We did a wide range of activitys. Many of these were for learning purposes and some were for amusement. We had a tour around parliament and got to meet Andrew Little. At parliament we learnt about the building and the customs. I learnt lots of stuff that I did not know before and saw some amazing animals at the Wellington zoo. We had a short session with some zoo keepers and a big look around with our parents. I really liked the Tasmanian devils and the otters. At Zealandia I learnt about many natural birds and the effect that migration and new animals has had on them. We did a bit of snorkeling but it was freezing and I did not really get to see much except for a few fish and lots of paua and I also really liked ontv and the media lab because it gave me insight to what tv is really like.At ontv we followed the script for Once Upon A Crime which is a story set in a fairy tail land and followed the lives of some very well known characters from fairies tails. My highlight was probably weta workshop because I really enjoy some of the movies that they make and it was very informative as well as fun.Over all I really liked the opportunity of going to wellington and getting to do all this amazing stuff.

Week 6 & 7

We have done quite a bit of maths over the past couple of weeks and I am learning a lot. Heaps of the stuff that I learnt last year is coming back to me. I really like the elibrary program that I have access to. Because of this I have been able to read a couple of good books ,and I have really enjoyed reading these. We have also been doing some work on commas and where they go. I think that I am quite good with commas but there were some very hard sentences that stumped me. We have started using this reading task program that is one of our reading activitys. One of our tasks was to read a couple of pieces about the holocaust and I learnt a lot. I think that it is descusting how Hitler thought him self and his race were superior to  Jews. And I think that it was even worse that he killed them because of his stupid beliefs. I have also finished my sweatshirt in sowing and I believe it looks really cool along side a beanie that I made with my spare material.

Week Five

Finally we have finished testing. We have started to really get into maths and writing. We were all given the task of writing about a wonder of the world. We could chose from the wonders of the ancient, medieval, modern and natural world. I have been writing an explanation about the roman coliseum (a wonder of the medieval world) and I think that I have done quite well so far. ⺞ I think that my writing is already improving. This week  I also participated in boating and water safety and this taught me a lot. We learnt how to keep warn in huddles, how to swim safely with a life jacket and how to balance and drop out of a boat. I think that water safety is really important because New Zealand has one of the worlds highest drowning rates. I am also very excited because next week I have my interview for college. I was surprised that it was this early because it only term one. I also did quite well in swimming sports. I placed in backstroke and won nearly every non champ event I went into. Puniu came third place behind Waikato and Wapia.

Week 4

Yay. I have got house captain for puniu. I am so happy I got this position and I am glad that I did not have to move houses to fill in as house captain there. But I did not get class counselor but it doesn't really worry me cause house captain was the position I really wanted. We have done some more testing and some more maths. The stuff I did last year is starting to come back to me with a little of revision work. I am now also getting better at the trumpet and I am starting to really get the hang of playing it and what all the notes sound like. My sweat shirt is starting to come together and I am really liking the look of it and I cant wait till I finish it. We had leader ship day on Friday and I think that I got a lot out of it and it was very fun. I look forward to doing more things with the other house captains and class counselors. We also had our first real student counsel meeting on Thursday and I am looking forward to doing more of these. We have also started softball and over the past few weeks and I am ready to put some of the theory's to the test.

Week 3 reflection

This week we started to do some testing and I have finally finished my visual language task. My task was to make a board filled with pictures and words that can be used to describe me and was made so Mrs Crowe could learn a bit about us. On my board I have included many things about me, who I am and what I enjoy to do. I have learnt lots about other kids by looking at these. I cant wait till Monday morning assembly because the class counsellors and the house captains will be announced. I really want to be house captain this year because I want some more leadership responsibility and I want to improve my public speaking skills. these are the same reasons that I want to be class counsellor.

2017

I am settling into TAI life very quickly this year. I have made some nice new friends but everyone at TAI seems so short this year. I almost forgot everything that I learnt last year but its all coming back to me now. We have started testing but unfortunately I have torn a muscle in my leg so I have had to sit out of sport for a while. I had acupuncture in my leg and it felt so weird. I have put my name forward for class counsellor and house leader and I cant wait to find out if I received either of these positions.
